The Society was formed to hold the Northumberland Arms in community ownership.The Society has some 246 shareholder members, mostly relatively local to the Thumb, but with Shareholders as far away as Los Angeles and Barcelona.

The Society is managed and administered by an elected Board of Directors, responsible for managing the Society and its assets.There are eleven on the Board of Directors, all of whom are voluntary and receive no benefits or remuneration.
